Let me set the scene for you here. Imagine the quaint downtown of Essex, CT (it’s literally like a movie set) in the early summer. The wedding party is getting ready at the historic Griswold Inn before the ceremony on the town green, overlooking the CT River. The reception is to be held later that evening at the Lace Factory in Deep River, just a few minutes up the river. Picture perfect!
I love photographing weddings…duh. But one of the reasons I love them so much might surprise you. A lot photographers don’t like weddings because it is not a controlled environment (meaning they don’t have control over the lighting, setting, not knowing many of your subjects). But I gotta tell ya, this is the part that gets my adrenaline pumping. It is challenging for sure. But I like being forced to think on my feet, connect with “strangers,” and create something really cool or beautiful for my clients. Now don’t get me wrong, there is definitely planning involved, but there are always things that happen that you can’t control…which leads me to the weather.
It rained. Oh, it rained. So we had to alter our original plan for nearly all of the portraits, but the final product was creative images that I otherwise wouldn’t have captured had it been a bright sunny day. And there is something pretty romantic about a couple getting married in the rain under a tree on the river. I love this couple and I loved their wedding! Enjoy!
(And thank you to Marilee and Kassandra for hustling all day long to help capture this beautiful day!) 🙂
