MARRIED: Jack + Alaina

01 02Q: Why did you select this wedding date?
Both: It was cost effective for our budget, plus we also love March and it was a great month to travel to St. Lucia.

03Q: What was the best “deal” or DIY project that you found?
Both:  Definitely J. Fiereck’s PrestoSnaps! Our guests loved your take on the photo booth idea and that they had instant access to their shots online.

04 05Q: What was your favorite part of the day?
Both: We actually both had the same answer – the first look.

06Q: What surprised you the most about the day?
Both: We were surprised that everything turned out as well as it did.

07 08Q: What was the most emotional part of the day?
Alaina: The ceremony. I got a little choked up during one of my lines.
Jack: Watching my wife walk down the aisle.

09 10Q: What was the funniest part of the day?
Both: Our friends’ dance moves.

11Q: Best piece of advice for other engaged couples?

So here it is. The first wedding of 2014. After a long winter break, we were pretty pumped to get back into wedding season. Many thanks to Joanne Vandal and Charles Neumann for all their help that day. Here are our favorites from the day along with a little interview with the bride and groom.

01Q: Why did you select this date for your wedding?
Sarah: An easy day for the groom to remember, just kidding!

02Q: What surprised you the most about the day?
Both: That it did not snow.

03Q: Best piece of advice for other engaged couples?
Sarah: Don’t worry about what other people think or what you should or shouldn’t do, it’s you and your groom’s special day.

04Q: What did you like best about your experience with J. Fiereck?
Both: Jennifer and her team ran everything very smoothly, had a great schedule and a great artistic eye for pictures.

06Q: What was the funniest part of the day?
Sarah: When I “iced” Timmy doing the garter toss.
Tim: When one of the groomsmen tackled little kids to get the garter.

07 08Q: What was the best “deal” you found or DIY project?
Sarah: I wanted it to be a travel theme wedding about the journey of our relationship. So every table was a different place in our lives and luggage tags as the seating cards. I had also made up a little rhyme on my own, not from a website, about why the tables were places and not numbers. I had worked on a scrapbook of our relationship to share at the wedding for everyone to see as well.

09 10Q: What was your favorite part of the day?
Tim: Seeing Sarah walk down the aisle.
Sarah: The dancing part of the reception or maybe just the whole day.

11 12Q: What was the most emotional part of the day?
Sarah: Before and during the ceremony.
Tim: The best man speeches.

13 14Q: If you had to do it all over again…
Both: We would change nothing.

15 16Q: Okay, tell us about the honeymoon!
Both: We went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic at the Excellence Resort for one week.

Everyone is Beautiful: Portrait Session Giveaway

This week we had the opportunity to photograph an amazing community event and fundraiser for the YWCA of Greater Hartford, called In the Company of Women. This annual luncheon gathers more than 1,500 women of all walks of life for an afternoon of networking, sisterhood and community advocacy. This year’s keynote speaker was,  Camryn Manheim, Emmy-winning actress and social activist. Much of her message had to do with women and body image and the unrealistic expectations that we put on ourselves. It was a very powerful and inspiring talk and it actually is a nice segway into today’s post.

Photography is a magical medium, allowing us to preserve memories, and the beauty and spirits of the ones we love. I truly believe that your spouse, significant other, partner, and family would cherish a beautiful portrait of you. Not to mention it would be a fun and empowering experience.

J. Fiereck is super excited to offer a new type of portrait session for adults of all ages. Introducing “Cup of Tea”–personal, stylized portrait sessions for adults. The purpose is to create a portrait that is reflective of your personal beauty. Featured on this post are favs from Brandi’s Cup of Tea shoot. There’s nothing glam, high-fashion or over-the-top about them. But they are beautiful and reflect her style.

Sessions include a style consultation with J. Fiereck and professional hair and make up.

To celebrate this new offering, we are giving a Cup of Tea session away to one lucky winner (a $700 value).

Here are the rules for our session giveaway:

1. Entrants must be 18 years or older.

2. Anyone who subscribes (this includes current subscribers) to our blog is entered to win.

3. Here’s the catch. We need 50 new subscribers to our blog. Once we reach 50 new subscribers, we will randomly select the lucky winner. So that means you need to start referring your friends and family to our blog. Get on it, people! And good luck!

Many thanks to Isaac Hardy of Eyes by Isaac for his hair and make up talents.

ENGAGED: Carrington + Diana

So excited to share our first engagement session of 2014 from a couple of weeks ago. Carrington and Diana are tying the knot this May. They live in North Carolina, so we had to plan their shoot around when they would be north of the Mason Dixon Line again. We decided on Hartford City Hall for the location. There are so many options for settings in this beautiful historic building.  Here are our favorites. Many thanks to Emily Croll for assisting that day. Can’t wait to show you favs from Carrington and Diana’s big day, which is just weeks away.

J. Fiereck Party + 2013 Highlights

Hello again, Brandi here :)
Before our crazy 2014 wedding season begins (which is this Saturday), we decided it would probably be a good idea for the J. Fiereck Photography family to get together.
This gave us a chance to catch up on what we’ve all been up to over the holidays and get to know any members we might not have met yet.

We started off the night with a game of “people bingo” to break the ice.
Each card had an assortment of facts about members of the team and we had to get talking to figure out who the facts were about.

Some of them weren’t as easy as we thought they were going to be, but we had a good time.

And there were prizes!

And here we are, just some of the J. Fiereck family showing the love!

Unfortunately some of the team was unable to join us at the party.
But not to worry, you can “meet” them by watching this video slideshow that we put together of some of our most memorable 2013 moments.

MARRIED: Alex + Andrea

I recently had a chance to catch up with our last couple of 2013 and reflect on their amazing wedding.
Here’s what they had to say.

Q: Why did you two select this date for your wedding?
Andrea: Well we had so many different dates because of Alex’s Coast Guard schedule. We tried for September, October but we finally ended up with November.

Q: What was your favorite part of the day?
Alex: Seeing all of our friends and family at the reception!
Andrea: Yeah I agree with Alex. I really enjoyed the introductions of the bridal party and seeing all of our guests reactions.

Q: What surprised you most about the big day?
Andrea: How fast it went by! I really wish I could do it all over again!

Q: What is your best piece of advice for other couples
currently planning their big day?
Andrea: Just try to relax and not get overwhelmed by all of the small details, they’ll work themselves out in the end.

Q: What did you like best about your experience with J. Fiereck?
Alex: Taking pictures on the pier, definitely. It was so fun and flexible and relaxed. Even my groomsmen had a great time.
Andrea: It made me feel really comfortable when someone that I didn’t know could make me feel so confident.
That’s an awesome feeling!

Q: What was the most emotional part of the day for each of you?
Andrea: Our first dance at the reception was definitely mine!
Alex: I would have to say the ceremony and seeing Andrea walk down the aisle.

Q: And the funniest part of the day?
Andrea: The best man’s speech! That was hilarious.
Alex: The party bus ride from the ceremony to the portrait location,
we had some great laughs. It’s probably good we don’t have any photographic evidence.

Q: What was the best “deal” or DIY project that you guys found?
Alex: The reception table numbers, I actually made them myself!
Andrea: The caramel apple favors. We bought them pre-dipped but had the bridal party come over to
wrap them and make them pretty.

Q: Okay, spill it! Tell us about the honeymoon!
Andrea: We went to Secrets Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica for five nights and six days. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and the hotel was beautiful. We went on a catamaran, went zip lining and just relaxed, it was great.

Q: If you had to do it all over again…
Alex: I wouldn’t change a thing!
Andrea: I don’t know if I would either, but if I did I would just try to relax more.

Congratulations Andrea and Alex! It was a true pleasure getting to know you and your families.
And a special thank you to Alex for his service in the Coast Guard and helping to keep our shores and waters safe.
Thank you to Brandi and Joanne for capturing some of the great moments for this beautiful couple.

Just Another Day at the Office…

Happy Moosday!
Brandi here with the very latest in J. Fiereck happenings :)

With the 2013 wedding season complete and the 2014 wedding season not yet underway,
we’ve had some downtime here at the studio.

Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE weddings (more than you probably know) but it can be easy to fall into a routine when you’re busy.
SO we’ve been brainstorming ways to stay creative and keep us at the top of our game, and what better way to keep those creative juices flowing than to play and have a little fun?

The theme for our shoot was “pinup lumberjack” and our amazing location was Case Mountain in Manchester.

While I was getting all dolled up by Isaac Hardy (of Eyes by Isaac), Jen and one of our assistants Emily scouted out our location and did a mini session for Emily.
I absolutely loved her outfit! Does she not look like a model straight out of an L.L. Bean catalog?

When I arrived, Jen and Emily were ready to go. Here is the very first shot of the day.

Jen raided her garage for props. I don’t think Dave thought she was serious when she asked to borrow the chainsaw…
(keep scrolling)

The weather cooperated for the most part… except for when the wind kicked up!
Temps were in the low 30′s but with the wind chill, it burned a little.
But hey, that’s a sacrifice I was willing to make for these killer images!

Can you believe that the above shot is completely candid? Jen snapped this little gem while she was testing the lights and I took a minute to warm up! This ended up being my favorite set of the day.

A big thanks goes out to Emily for not being afraid to get a little dirty and chop down a few small trees!

I was feeling pretty badass at this point, not gonna lie.

This was such a fun shoot! Full of new discoveries and learning experiences for everyone;
and we could not have pulled it off without Emily! She rocks!

Stay tuned and be on the lookout for some exciting news in the next few weeks :)

Adalyn’s One Year Portrait

I cannot believe that our little Adalyn is already 14 months old. Over the Christmas holiday, my Aunt Karen (who is also a very talented and accomplished Master Photographer, with a studio in Kannapolis, NC called Irresistible Portraits), photographed Addy in our home. Here are my favorites from Addy’s shoot.

Thank you, Aunt Karen, for capturing our sweet girl so beautifully. Her little personality shines through in these images. Love you! xoxo

Starting The Year Off Right

We are very proud to announce that J. Fiereck Photography has been rated by local brides and voted The Knot Best of Weddings 2014 Pick. This is our fourth year in a row receiving this distinction, which also makes us a Best of Weddings Hall of Fame inductee. Thank you to all of our amazing couples who wrote reviews sharing their experience with J. Fiereck. We truly appreciate your feedback and know that it will help other couples with their wedding planning.

Watch out, 2014! Here we come. :)
